"Cuetlaxochitl"
30x30 Oil on Canvas. "Cuetlaxochitl" is the original Nahuatl name of the poinsettia, or "poon-setta" as a friend calls them. The one depicted in this painting I've kept long after the holiday season, with new green growth coming in and once-bright red leaves now a creamy pink. In this painting, the plant is a metaphor for the consumption of Central and South American immigrant labor, and how the people who provide this labor are "discarded" when it is no longer needed.
